Oral-motor therapy is highly recommended for babies who have feeding issues and children who have difficulties with speech clarity, lack of abdominal strength to speak loudly, find it hard to control their voice volume etc. Our oral-motor therapists are highly trained and are super friendly to little children who need this therapy.
Speech & Languages
Speech and language therapy is suitable for children of all ages who have speech delay, issues with speech clarity, cochlear implant (CI), etc. Spark Child Centre’s speech and language classes help improve children’s receptive language, expressive language, and speech clarity among many others related to speech.
2)PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
PECS is taught to children who are non-verbal and do not effectively communicate their personal wants and needs. With PECS, we teach children to communicate effectively with others by using picture cards and this often times can even help with their problematic behaviors such as throwing tantrums, crying, and getting angry easily that is often due to frustration.
Special Needs Education
The Special Needs Education department at Spark Child Centre is staffed with passionate, creative, loving, and responsible special needs education teachers. The academic module utilized for teaching students with differing levels of capabilities ensure that the knowledge learned at Spark Child Centre matches the curriculum of that in a normal, typical kindergarten/school setting.
Our Dyslexia Program is designed to help students with less ideal school results in subjects such as English, Malay, and Mandarin to improve in their reading, pronunciation, comprehension, writing components of these subjects. Our Dyslexia Program teacher is trained in Orton-Gillingham Approach which teaches students in a more holistic and creative way that utilizes students’ visual, kinesthetic, and audio senses to learn better.
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a form of therapy that has the primary goal of enable people to participate in the daily living activities. In the case of Occupational Therapy for special needs children (young to teenagers), we aim to teach and develop self-help skills as well as independent skills. Before we can do all that, occupational therapists need to tackle the underlying sensory integration issues (if any) in children in order for them to have the fundamental focus and attention to learn and absorb new information. An individualized treatment plan will be created specifically for each child according to their needs after assessment is conducted by our Senior Occupational Therapist.
Hippotherapy is a form of occupational therapy that is conducted on a therapeutic horse. Therapist uses the movements of the horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input. Building this firm foundation can help improve neurological function and sensory processing, which can be generalized to a wide range of daily activities. Hippotherapy also creates the opportunity to train the children’s upper body strength, focus, attention, and coordination for special needs children.
Behavioural Modification is individualized to suit each individual’s own set of goals and is conducted one-to-one based on Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) approach. Behavioural Modification aims to help a child learn alternative skills which are more appropriate and decrease the undesirable behaviour in order to improve our child’s life quality and independence.
Spark Child Centre’s Psychology department helps to improve the psychological wellbeing and learning abilities of children. Services provided include psychological consultations for parents, standardized psychological tests (Autism, ADHD, IQ, Developmental, Behavioural & Emotional Test) and different approaches of counselling and psychotherapy such as expressive art therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and positive parenting skills.
